I honestly don't understand why I'm learning 70% of the things I'm learning right now. And when I do question why I'm being taught this, I either get a lengthy speech that I don't understand, or at the very least get told "It's a life skill you need".
The last time I checked, I wouldn't need to know how to write an equation in function notation for a relation (which to find, I would have to use y=mx+5, keying in the slope and the y intercept, and after doing to having to change the equation to to function notation so f(x)= x +/- y). I don't think I will ever use finding the albeado of a climate, and figuring out if it is in a positive or negative feedback loop. I will never think about Dactyls after high school. But, that really has me thinking, should school actually teach us life skills?
I will never use any of that in my life, but there is a lot of things I need to know, that I don't. And isn't school a place for learning? In math, they should teach me how to pay my taxes, phone bill, car payments, electricity bills, water bills, etc... In science, I should learn about what medications I should take, how different things effect different people, what chemicals are deadly, what to do if someone is in contact with those chemicals, etc... I don't know any of that, so what would happen if I'm in one of those situations? "THAT MAN INGESTED ARSENIC AND THERE'S NO PHONE, WHAT SHOULD WE DO?!?!?", "umm.... a Dactyl is a metrical foot consisting of one stressed syllable followed by two unstressed syllables". And people wonder why our country is so messed up.
And another thing, why waste our time? They make us learn unimportant things, and stay for 7 hours when we barely use 4? For example, I had English Reading today, we had a sub. We did one worksheet, and watched a movie. We had over a half hour left, so we got food. I then had Writing.... another sub. We watched two short movies, and then we were suppose to do a paper. Problem is is that we did that paper last week, we had over an hour of nothing. Then I had tutorial (the class I'm in right now), it's used to catch up on work, but of course I have no work. I'm stuck in school on blogger, couldn't I be at home? My next class is health, we're doing over a month long study on stress.... trust me, that class is stressing me out.
Why I'm trying to get at is that everyone wants us to be productive, but there basically wasting our times, and in the end, we're not.
